7 Ways to Make Your Study Time More Effective

Many college students today are working part-time jobs while attending school. This is mostly because student loans don’t always cover all the costs involved in going to college.
So that’s why it’s essential for students to maximize every minute they have to study. Here are 8 tips to help you maximize your time:
1. Make Time to Study Everyday
You should expect to study about two hours for every hour you spend in class. This time should be spent reading your textbooks, your class notes, conducting any research, and writing any papers. Set a time everyday to study — and stick to it.
2. Study at the Same Time
Train your body and mind to study at the same time each day. Getting in a regular routine will help you focus on your study material faster, and will prepare your mind psychologically for the tasks you have ahead of you.
3. Study During Your Free Time
Think about all the time in your day when you have a free moment. This could be between classes, waiting for class to start, lunch breaks, or whenever. Use your free time to review flash cards or class notes. Even if you only have 5 minutes to spare, it can keep your mind thinking about your class — and this can really help you stay focused.
4. Take Study Breaks
Whenever you’re studying over an hour, it’s usually good to take a 10 minute break. Use this break to get some exercise. Take a brief walk outside and stretch.
5. Use an hour each week to review.
You should schedule one hour each week to review your notes, and think about what’s coming up in your classes. Your review time is not for studying — this is simply reviewing everything you’ve learned so far — and looking ahead at what’s coming next.
6. Be flexible.
Plan on being flexible with your daily schedule. It’s okay to miss some of the study goals you set for yourself. It’s bound to happen. You just need to get on track as soon as you can.
7. Create Flash Cards
One of the biggest ways to maximize your study time is to develop flash cards. Flash cards help you focus on the subject areas you need help learning. Once you’ve created the cards, it should be easy to study whenever you have a free moment.
By following these 7 tips, you’ll help yourself stay on track and study more efficiently.
