5 Ways to Learn More During Your Class Lectures

Here are 5 ways you can learn more during your class lectures:

Don't write down everything.
Many students make the mistake of trying to write down every word -- and that's a big mistake. Focus instead of the major points the teacher emphasizes, especially anything he or she repeats twice. Write down big themes and any specific examples your teacher uses in class. Try to summarize these ideas for yourself.

Study Your Notes Immediately After Class
Another strategy to learning more from your notes is to study them right after class. This will give you a chance to expand on any areas you forgot to jot down. You can also make sure all your notes make sense - and fix any errors you might have made. This is also a great way to help the ideas presented in class cement in your mind.

Ask Questions
Don't be afraid to ask questions about any terminology or subjects you don't understand. If you're not understanding what the teacher is saying, you should know that there are many others in class with the same questions. So speak up when you need clarification.

Read Your Textbook Before Class
Make sure you do all your assigned reading before class. Don't wait for the class lecture to find out what was in the textboook. You'll dramatically increase your memory of important concepts if you do your reading beforehand.

Focus Your Attention on the Big Ideas
Sometimes it's better to put down your pen and pay close attention to what you're teacher is saying. Jot down the major ideas he or she is talking about -- and write down any practical examples given. Ask questions about these topics (or jot down your questions to ask after class). The more questions you ask - the more you'll learn.
