Congratulations to the Everest University (Tampa) MBA students who took part in GLO-BUS – a real-time global on-line business strategy competition.
With 69 teams from 16 countries competing, Everest University placed fifth overall in the 12-week-long competition. In addition, the Everest teams consistently ranked in the top 10 throughout the competition which included teams from such universities as Boston University, Rutgers University, Brigham Young University and Loyola University, as well as University of Hong Kong, Cetys Universidad (Baja California, Mexico) and Hecettepe University (Ankara, Turkey).
Everest's MBA GLO-BUS participants included Ayaz Afzal, Eva Alvarez, Nichole Barry, Jacqueline Burns, Julia Graouman, Yi Hsieh, Derya Karasu, Bertha Karimazondo, Angeica Lazo, Javier Lozano, Irina Makarova, Ugo Nnanna, Gina Rejas, Ertugrul Selvi and Gina Wilson, and instructor Dr. Jayna Newell.
GLO-BUS is a completely online exercise where teams of students run a digital camera company in head-to-head competition against companies run by other students. Companies compete in a global market arena, selling digital cameras in four geographic regions—Europe-Africa, North America, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. The competition tracks each team’s progress by measuring earnings per share, return on investment, stock price appreciation and credit rating.
In the last year, over 26,000 students from over 3,000 schools have participated in one of GLO-BUS’ 30 business simulations.
“GLO-BUS gave my students the opportunity to compete against students from other major universities worldwide,” stated Dr. Newell.
“The competition helped them transcend the Tampa Bay market, Florida market and even a U.S.-market mentality, and gave them a global marketplace perspective. The program was truly an innovative way to reach my Gen Y students.”
