RT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (July 29, 2009) – It’s no surprise that criminal justice careers are in hot demand given the saturation of TV dramas centering on our nation’s law enforcement industry. They can be exciting to watch, but in reality the number of violent crimes is rising annually. According to the most recent statistics published by the U.S. Department of Justice statistics, Florida continues to rank second highest for violent crimes in the nation, totaling 131,880 in 2007. Everest Institute - Fort Lauderdale recognizes the need to produce quality leaders in the criminal justice system and announces today its first criminal justice associates degree program.
The criminal justice program will provide students with the skills and knowledge for entry-level jobs in law enforcement, corrections, probation and parole, as well as investigations and private security. Law enforcement agencies may require additional training. The program, approximately two years in length, provides students a broad understanding of human behavior, criminological thought, along with law and public policy. These prepare them to meet the challenges facing public safety and security personnel as well as to find quality jobs. There is no externship or any external exam requirements at this time.
“I am really excited to be able to offer Criminal Justice at Everest Institute - Fort Lauderdale because it can help students with a basic understanding of the Criminal Justice system,” said campus president Edward Galizia. “This gives them the foundation to select the area of criminal justice that best suits their interests while opening up a myriad of job opportunities and salary levels.”
Everest’s Career Services team is dedicated to help place students upon graduation in criminal justice employment positions. Everest is owned by Corinthian Colleges, Inc., which had a job placement rate of 83.7 percent in 2007 among its North American campuses. In that year, approximately 34,050 entered the workforce with degrees or diplomas in essential industries. The criminal justice and other programs may offer financial aid or scholarships for those who qualify.
