Everest College-Merrillville Adds Electrifying New Electrician Program

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. – January 13, 2011 – Everest College-Merrillville now offers a new curriculum that’s sure to be a “turn-on” for students – an Electrician diploma program. Designed to meet the growing demand for electricians nationally, the nine-month program launched this month and is accepting applicants for the winter start.

“According to of the Bureau Labor Statistics*, the need for electricians is expected to rise 12 percent by 2018, presenting many exciting job opportunities for today’s youth,” said Charles Mitchell, president of Everest’s Merrillville campus. “Our goal is to ensure we produce the skilled, quality graduates needed to help meet the growing need for electricians in our communities.

The electrician training at Everest focuses on a wide range of industry applications, covering such topics as electrical theory and safety, electrician tools, conduit bending, residential and commercial wiring, transformer principles, power distribution, emergency systems, advanced code concepts and motors, industrial controls, and programmable logic controllers.

“Everest’s hands-on training is taught in a variety of simulated environments by instructors with real-world experience as professional electricians. Our instructors are eager to share their skills and knowledge with their students,” added Mitchell.
Graduates of the Everest Electrician program are prepared to work in the residential, industrial or commercial sectors in such positions as preventive maintenance, production, repair, industrial maintenance, programming, field service and installation. Upon graduation, Everest College offers its students career placement services in the fields for which they are trained.
