Dental Assistant Education in Atlanta

Dental assistants remain in high demand in Georgia. Employment opportunities for dental assistants throughout the state are projected to increase 36 percent between 2008 and 2018, according to O*Net, the online occupational resource sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor/Bureau of Labor Statistics.* In the Atlanta Metro area, dental assistant jobs are projected to increase 71 percent by 2016 (from a 2006 baseline) according to the Georgia Department of Labor, Department of Workforce Information & Analysis.**
Dental assistants often perform a variety of duties. These can range from working directly with dentists and their patients preparing dental instruments, taking X-rays, mixing dental cements and materials, to office management creating insurance claims and patient files, setting appointments, processing invoices, to dental laboratory work creating plaster casts, crown and bridge appliances and mouth guards and other removable appliances. Hours can be either full-time or part-time, with median wages in the state of Georgia being approximately $34,000 annually (Source: O*Net).
Dental Assistant Training Available at Everest College
If pursuing a dental assistant career appeals to you, you can get the training you need to qualify for entry-level positions in this field through the Dental Assistant career education program at the Atlanta West campus of Everest College. This eight-month program is designed to help give students the academic and practical “hands-on” training they need to qualify for dental assisting jobs with dentists, orthodontists, endodontists, periodontists and in dental laboratories.

When they have completed the Dental Assistant program, Everest graduates can take advantage of the school’s Career Services department. There, experienced Career Services representatives help students prepare their resumes, rehearse effective interviewing techniques and then identify and contact local employers. Career Services help is available to graduates throughout their careers.
