Massage Therapy Jobs on the Upswing in Atlanta Metro

Massage TherapyJob prospects look promising for massage therapists looking for work in the Atlanta Metro area. Last decade, the Georgia Department of Labor’s Department of Workforce Information and Analysis projected job growth of 34.2 percent for massage therapists between 2006 and 2016.* The long-term growth rate remains 35 percent for Georgia as a whole, compared to 19 percent for the entire United States, in the department’s most recent projection for the 10 years between 2008 and 2018.**

If you live in Gwinnette County, you can train for a career in massage therapy at Everest Institute in Norcross. This nine-month program helps provide students with the education and experience they need to compete for entry-level positions in this growing and reward career field.

Massage Therapy at Everest Institute

Everest’s Massage Therapy program is designed to help prepare students to work in day spas, hotels, resorts, clinics and other venues where massage therapy is offered. The program has one prerequisite course — Introduction to Massage Therapy — and eight additional learning units called modules. The eight modules function as stand alone as a unit of study and are not dependent upon the completion of any previous or subsequent section. Students may enter the program in any of the eight modules and continue through these modules until all have been completed. The eight modules are:

  • Business and Ethics
  • Swedish Massage, Pre-Natal, Post-Natal, and Infant and Elder/Geriatric Massage
  • Eastern Theory and Practice
  • Energy and Non-Traditional Therapies, Wellness and CPR
  • Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, and Pin and Stretch
  • Neuromuscular/Trigger Point and Muscle Energy Techniques
  • Clinical and Sports Medicine
  • Health and Wellness

Following the successful completion of these eight modules, students participate in 30 hours of hands-on clinical training.

Career Services

Upon graduation, students in the Massage Therapy program can take advantage of Everest’s Career Services department. There, experienced representatives help students identify and contact local employers. They also help students prepare winning resumes, practice effective interviewing techniques and even select their interview wardrobe.
