PORTLAND, Oregon - The Everest College campus in Portland celebrated a particularly active Student Ambassador group during the 2010 calendar year that continued into the 2011 first quarter. During the year, Ambassadors were able to participate in many major school functions in and around the campus, as well as provide volunteer opportunities at orientations, graduations and Student Appreciation Days, according to Cindy Slusher, Director of Admissions for Everest College, Portland campus.
Some of the highlights for the year included:
- A fundraiser to provide a holiday meal to the students and families experiencing difficulties during the sluggish economy
- Operated a Candy-Gram fundraiser to provide bus fare to students with challenging transportation needs.
- Academic all-stars excelling in a particular program offered tutoring services to fellow students
- Hosted a school supply drive to help students with needed supplies
At the community level, Student Ambassadors participated at a variety of activities including volunteer efforts and fundraising for:
- Oregon Food Bank, which distributes food to agencies feeding the hungry throughout Oregon and Clark County, Washington.
- Hosted a very successful clothing drive to benefit "Help for Daddy", a non-profit organization helping to ensure divorced, separated or widowed fathers remain a part of their children's lives
- Assisted in a blood drive for the Pacific Northwest Region of Oregon and Washington Red Cross chapters.
