The Orlando metro area will need about 350 new accountants in 2014 to keep up with the area’s growing need for financial professionals, according to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (FDEO). The demand will continue at that level until at least the year 2020, the department predicts.
In 2010, there were approximately 8,000 accountants and auditors employed in Florida’s Orange County, according to FDEO statistics. That number is projected to increase to about 9,430 by the end of the decade. That’s a total of 1,430 new accounting jobs, or an increase of 17.9 percent.
Where will all the new accountants come from? In Central Florida, accounting training is available at the South Orlando campus of Everest University. There, Everest offers a four-year bachelor’s degree in Accounting program specifically designed to prepare students for the demands of this area’s burgeoning economy.
